A top United Nations official is warning that spending on agriculture in poorer countries needs to rise tenfold, to tackle the problem of world hunger.
The head of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, Jacques Diouf, was speaking to the BBC on the eve of a food security summit in Rome.
It was called after big rises in food prices sparked riots around the world. Mr Diouf said $30 to $50 billion every year was needed for long-term solutions.
