Ms Arbour criticises global tolerance for Burma abuses

UN says many of more than 2 million people have not received aid yet


A top UN human rights official said Burmese government's aid obstruction illustrates the invidious effects of long-standing international tolerance for human rights violation. ဆက္ဖတ္ရန္ အၿပည္႔အစံု ကို Click ႏွိပ္ပါ။
High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms Louise Arbour was speaking at a UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva.
Meanwhile, the head of the UN food relief agency, WFP, Josette Sheeran, said urgent work is still needed to stave off hunger in the cyclone-hit areas.
He said more visas had been granted to foreigners, but that bureaucratic obstacles remained.
The UN believes more than two-million people are in need of aid, many of whom have seen none. Burma's secretive generals promised unfettered access late last month, but aid organisations say that has yet to happen.
The US has accused Burma of criminal neglect -- something the government there has angrily denied.
The military authorities said last week the people didn't need chocolate bars from foreign aid workers.
Victims and local donors told BBC Burmese that only aid which some victims are receiving are from the local donors.
They said the corpses and dead bodies of the animals are yet to be collected in some cyclone-hit delta areas.
